josh + amy + ?

Confession: I've never shot maternity photos, yes, ever.

Meet Amy and Josh, two of our newest friends here on the West Coast! They have been so gracious and welcoming to us, they are always inviting us to fun things. I'm always wishing we could reciprocate, but usually we're so lame we rarely leave the house (that is pathetic, I know..don't judge!)

A couple of weeks ago I messaged Amy, asking if she'd be up to a photo shoot. I wanted the practice of shooting maternity photos and needed a guinea pig to try it out on. Amy messaged back, excited about the idea and informed me that the anniversary of when Josh proposed was coming up and they'd love to do an updated photo session on location. Josh proposed at the Griffith Observatory, surprising Amy by having their closest friends hold up signs saying, "Amy will you marry Josh?" Forever began that day.

When the day finally came for the shoot, I had no idea what I was in for. I'd never been to Griffith Park and naively expected a beautiful uninhabited park where I could roam free, taking pictures at whim while the sun set gloriously behind us. Boy was I in for a suprise! We ran a little late due to scheduling and by the time we got to the park, I had maybe 15 minutes of light. 15. Adding to my stress levels, the place was PACKED. Like, IHOP-on-free-pancake-day packed. I was feeling the pressure, I didn't want to screw up their anniversary and I SO wanted to make a good impression with my photographs. I took a deep breath and went into lockdown-photographer mode, ignoring that there were a hundred people around me, watching me, in my shot, and tried my best to focus on the love that was in front of me - the reason for the day.

Amy and Josh, your love is beautiful and I cannot wait to see your little one! I'm extremely proud of the images we got in those 10 minutes and hope you enjoy them too.

At the spot where Josh proposed! Presh
FAVORITE! You two are beautiful. Every kid should have a photo of their parents like this.

Dear Baby Marmol, your parents are the bomb.

Thanks guys for taking a chance on a stressed out photographer! May God continue to bless you both as you prepare for this beautiful blessing. Looking forward to a raincheck shoot with much more time and light! :)

I Remain

HUNTINGTON, in

A couple of weeks ago, a good friend Ben approached Daniel about filming a music video for one of his projects. The music video was for another good friend of ours, Alli. I met Alli two years ago, we lived together my sophomore year of college. She left last year to pursue music while traveling across Europe with YWAM (awesomeness). In addition to being an exceptionally talented musician, she also is a very talented photographer! It was Alli who first inspired me to pick up a camera. I had always loved photography but had never tried my hand at it. Alli is a beautiful woman of God who constantly inspires me to love deeply and find the beauty in being truly real with people.

The other man photographed here is Anthony! Anthony is a very talented musician as well and provided guitar for the piece. Together, their talent blows my mind and I can honestly say that I am so very proud of these images.

Thank you for being beautiful.

FAVORITE!

You are stunning.

My babe, doin his thang. P.S this scene looked SO GOOD!

AYKM with this?! Beautiful. Beautiful.

This is close competition for second favorite

Thank you Ben and Alli for letting me take part in this. These are beautiful and I am so proud to be a part of this.

Keep checking Send:Ben for a download of the song as well as the debut of the video!

Now it's official [engagement photos]

TRAVERSE CITY, mi

I have always had a love for photo blogs, its a wonderful way to keep up with photographers and get connected to other photographers. Confession: mayyybeeee I'm a photo blog stalker, but I know many of you are also! Don't deny it! I just like to keep up, that's all. The fact that I can recite to you full family history is of no consequence. There are a handful of photographers that I follow on a regular basis, they inspire me with their work and I always enjoy their posts. (Just to name a few, Bobbi&Mike, Our Life in Balance, and last but certainly not least DAN STEWART. I found Dan a couple years ago, he was using a blog template from NetRivet Prophoto Blogs, a company started by some family friends of ours, small world much? There they have links to many photographers and from there I stumbled upon his site. I immediately fell in love with his use of light and ability to capture beautiful moments, making them look so natural. I envied the couples on these blogs and since have dreamed about one day being featured. Well folks, today is that day!

As soon as Daniel and I were engaged (okay, maybe before...) I knew I wanted a photographer who knew what they were doing. These photos were top priority for me, yes above the dress and the reception decorations (I know I'm a weirdo...). Photography is most important to me because I will keep these images forever, I will hang them in my house and someday my grandchildren will look at them. I want them to see our love, tangibly, with quality photos that are guaranteed to last a lifetime. I think it's so sad that most couples, when getting married, put wedding photography at the lowest priority. GUYS, YOU DESERVE GREAT PHOTOS! (but I digress before this soapbox gets too high)

Here are a couple of my favorites from the session, complete with commentary to let you in on a few Behind the Scenes secrets!

Maybe I fell right after this was taken...clumsy much?

At one point, Dan asked Daniel to whisper in my ear 5 things he saw in our future. Here I am, preparing myself for truly romantic things like "love, beautiful children...etc" but no. He starts whispering ridiculous things like baby cheesus (Modern Family, anyone?) Hence, the laughter.

This photo was totally my idea and it was SO worth it. Someday it will be hanging in my house!
